GARRISON CREAK CELLARS
The next time you’re in Walla Walla, don’t miss the south area wineries including Garrison Creek, which is open by appointment only. Sitting at the foot of the LBue Mountains, Garrison Creek Cellars is owned by local Wa-Hi grad Michael Murr. A successful businessman, he has been very generous to Walla Walla and boy, did he do a first rate job on his tasting room and limited production wines. The wine maker and Mike’s old friend high school friend, David March is on site and well versed in the wines of the WW valley and his two currently available great wines for sale. A unique aspect of this winery is they cellar their wines for 2 years in all new French oak barrels and then leave them waiting for us for an additional 3 years in the bottle to smooth the finish. We tasted 2008 in the barrel and 2005 bottled Cabernet Saviugon and Syrah. They were both well balanced and the 2005 was ready to drink although it’d hold for another 10 years. Just plain yummy.
